Universal Health Care Insurance Company, Inc.
By Court Order, the Florida Department of Financial Services was directed to liquidate Universal Health Care Insurance Company. If your practice has any outstanding claims, the filing deadline is June 30, 2014.
The liquidation process is very specific and requires all claims be filed in a specific format. To download the proof-of-claim form and instructions, please go the website:
Please note, Universal Health Care Insurance Company is separate and distinct from Universal American Corp with products including Today's Options, Pyramid and American Progressive.
We sincerely hope this is very old news to you by now… On March 31, 2014, the Senate passed the House approved “Doc fix” bill to delay the scheduled 24% cut in Medicare reimbursement rates for physicians. Included in this bill was a delay in the ICD-10 implementation until at least October 2015.
Many physician practices, billing companies & hospitals had been working feverishly to train employees, upgrade software and implement other needed changes for the ICD-10 implementation. This delayed transition is complicating an already complex and difficult system. Many of the educational programs in place to teach coding to potential employees had already moved to ICD-10; the influx of trained, available coding employees will be strained.
Coventry/ Aetna Merger
In 2013, Aetna completed the acquisition of Coventry Health Care, Inc and its subdivisions (including Health Assurance Health America in Pennsylvania). In the last month or so, Coventry is no longer adding new physician practices to their products. Currently, it remains unclear if Aetna contracts will be amended to include the Coventry products or if separate Coventry contracting will continue. As soon as the answers are available, we will send out a notification of the revised processes. Physicians joining already existing practices and address changes to already existing practices are being completed by Coventry at this time. Stay tuned….
